Fujina-yaki is a pottery produced in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, has a rich history dating back to the mid-Edo period. under the patronage of the Matsue Domain, there was a division between the imperial kilns that produced tea ceremony utensils and private kilns that produced miscellaneous vessels for shipment to the Kitamae ships. During the Meiji era, Fujinayaki reached its peak and gained popularity not only domestically but also overseas, thanks to its distinctive yellow glaze. As the Showa era(1926-1989) dawned, the influence of folk art movements, such as those led by Yanagi Muneyoshi, Kawai Kanjiro, Hamada Shoji, and Bernard Leach, introduced a slipware technique embellished with decorative clay patterns. This remarkable product, once used by feudal lords and nobles for leisurely activities like cherry blossom viewing and travels, served as a versatile "nobento”, as lunch box, encompassing sake vessels, bento boxes, rice and soup bowls, and even tea ceremony utensils. In modern times, we propose its use as a flower vase, adding an elegant touch to your contemporary living spaces.
