This flower basket is made from birch tree bark and dates back to the late 19th century in Russia. In the Japanese tea ceremony, there is a saying, "Let the flowers look as if they were just picked from the fields," and "It is good to arrange flowers in one or two colors." This gave birth to the concept of the flower basket, as introduced by Sen no Rikyu, aiming to harmonize the floral arrangement with the tea ceremony. Departing from the previous use of elaborate baskets such as Tang ware, Rikyu incorporated the idea of using simple fish baskets used by fishermen. In this approach, Rikyu found beauty in everyday objects, foreshadowing the spirit of folk art that emerged later. We recommend arranging wildflowers from fields and mountains in this Russian folk craft flower basket, placing it on a table or hanging it on a wall to add a touch of rustic beauty to your surroundings.
